Quick Self Storage, Ambergate — Water-Damage Recovery & Full Rewire
A £135,000, nine-week recovery programme rebuilding Quick Self Storage’s electrical, fire-alarm, CCTV and lighting systems after extensive water damage.
The project
In 2025, RCS Maintenance Group was appointed to rebuild the electrical and life-safety infrastructure at Quick Self Storage’s Ambergate facility following extensive water damage.
A major failure in supply pipework connected to the local water main caused widespread damage across the site. Existing systems had to be carefully dismantled before the facility could be rewired and rebuilt with new electrical distribution, fire-alarm, CCTV and lighting installations.

The project covered the public-facing loading areas, internal storage environment and the electrical infrastructure supporting the wider facility.
Recovering from extensive water damage
The scale of the damage meant that this was not a straightforward repair. Water-affected systems and components had to be assessed, isolated and removed so that the replacement infrastructure could be installed on a reliable foundation.
RCS coordinated the removal and rebuilding work across the electrical, security and life-safety systems, providing the client with one accountable delivery team throughout the nine-week recovery programme.
The scope of work
- Dismantling and removal of water-damaged electrical and associated systems
- Full commercial rewire of the storage facility
- Installation of five new electrical distribution boards across the site
- New wiring infrastructure throughout the affected areas
- Installation of an upgraded lighting system for public areas
- Installation of a new emergency-lighting system
- Installation of a new fire-alarm system
- Installation of a new CCTV system
- Coordination of testing, commissioning and return to service
Rebuilding essential systems together
Power, lighting, fire detection, emergency lighting and CCTV all formed part of the same recovery programme. Rebuilding these systems together allowed routes, distribution and interfaces to be coordinated rather than approached as isolated packages.
The replacement electrical panels and wiring provided the foundation for the new lighting and life-safety installations, while upgraded public-area lighting improved the environment as part of the wider reinstatement.
Five new distribution boards
The full rewire was served through five distribution boards installed across the facility. The photographs below show one example during installation and after completion, including the labelled local supplies and final circuit arrangement.
A focused nine-week programme
RCS progressed the site from damaged-system removal through to complete electrical reinstatement within nine weeks. The programme required careful sequencing so that dismantling, rewiring, panel installation and the specialist fire-alarm and CCTV systems could move forward efficiently.
The outcome
RCS delivered the £135,000 recovery project in nine weeks, completing a full rewire and rebuilding the facility’s electrical distribution, fire-alarm, CCTV, public lighting and emergency-lighting systems.
The project demonstrates RCS’s ability to respond to extensive property damage, coordinate several critical systems and deliver a complete commercial electrical recovery programme from strip-out through to reinstatement.
